Nerlens Noel says he hopes to be able to play around Christmas

Fans of whichever team wins the lottery next week may have to wait until Christmas to unwrap their present.

Kentucky’s Nerlens Noel is the leading candidate to be the No. 1 pick in the draft. Yes, the same Noel who blew out his ACL last season. He was at the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago Thursday, getting measured and meeting with teams but not working out.

When does he think he’ll be able to play? (Via the official Pistons.com reporter)

Noel injured his knee in February, so Christmas is around 10 months. Whatever team drafts him will not rush him back, so it could be longer.

Where Noel goes really depends on who wins the lottery. Does that…

Small ball, no George Hill, enough for Knicks to win, stave off elimination

Hill, enough for Knicks to win, stave off elimination

The Knicks didn’t solve the Pacers defense Thursday night. New York made some good little runs — with George Hill out for Indiana Raymond Felton was getting into the lane and making things happen more often, plus Chris Copeland showed why he should get more run — but overall the Knicks scored a pedestrian 85 points and shot just 41 percent. They had 12 assists on 32 baskets, so it wasn’t amazing ball movement.

But it was enough.

It was a night when the Pacers went cold — a lot of that had to do with Hill’s absence, but the Pacers were 19-of-33 at the free throw line, too —and the Knicks went back to small ball, which worked. Solid Knicks defense and a few more made baskets led to a comfortable 85-75 Knicks win in Game 5.

That makes the series 3-2 Pacers heading back to Indiana…

LeBron, Heat follow familiar pattern to 27th straight victory

Originally posted on ProBasketballTalk:

There are some more interesting tests ahead on the schedule this week — Chicago, a New Orleans team that just ended the Nuggets win streak, then San Antonio. Games where the Heat can’t just coast along and flip a switch.

But they did follow that pattern again Monday — and it worked again. The Heat cruised to their 27th straight win following the pattern of recent games:

The other team comes out fired up, Miami doesn’t match their intensity and the opponent take an early lead. Then Miami follows LeBron James on a big run, pulls away in the second half and wins handily.

Monday night that pattern led to a 108-94 win for the Heat that extended their winning streak to 27 games. As has been drummed into your head by now that is the second longest in NBA history and six games short of the NBA record of…

Larry Sanders of the Bucks needs an attitude adjustment if he’s ever going to reach his full potential as an NBA player. It’s unclear if the current people on the Milwaukee Bucks coaching staff are the right men for the job, but what is painfully obvious is that Sanders is out of control, and his emotional outbursts aimed at the league’s officials must be stopped.

Early in the third quarter of the Bucks’ loss to the Pacers on Friday, Sanders was whistled for a minor foul call that turned into a major event. He let the officials have it verbally to pick up his first technical foul, then briefly headed towards a referee to continue to express his displeasure, before he was pulled away by teammate Marquis Daniels.

That demonstrative effort got Sanders whistled for his second technical foul, which came with it an automatic…
